Do you think for over 36 years of software testing,
people never thought beyond techniques that are commonly heard
by all testers?
If you believe people did think beyond those commonly heard
techniques, welcome to experiencing those thoughts beyond the
common.
Test Design can be described as:
• Modeling the test space : How many different ways can you
model the product you currently test?
• Determining coverage : How do you know what is the test
coverage you are achieving?
• Determining oracles : Are your oracles beyond requirements
document?
• Determining test procedures : Are you scripting your
procedures without knowing the danger with it?
To be better at test designing, you’d need skills that are
better. There would be exercises that would be focused on the
following few
• Questioning
• Lateral thinking
• Modeling
• Exploration
• Brainstorming
• Diversification
• Focusing and Defocusing
• Observation
• Listening
• Math
• A lot more…
Knowledge elements would be:
• Heuristics
• Oracles
• Test Coverage Models
• Test Design Techniques
• Test Strategy Models
• Mnemonics of testing
Get ready to apply all these to your testing and achieve better
coverage, better demonstration of coverage and better testing
If you expected to read “Equivalence Class Partitioning” then
are you sure you are looking for *advanced* test design?
• If you were to believe the people who took this workshop
earlier then you would have to believe that this is one of the
most interactive sessions. The delivery method is to put each
tester, lead and manager in the hot seat of testing various
software ( and non software ) products and helping them learn,
how they could design tests.
• Exercise based approach / Putting you in hot seat ( tester’s
seat )
• Context driven teaching
• Games
• Ideas that might not have been heard before to better
productivity of test teams
• Free soft copy downloads of all related material
• Screen saver of heuristics
Day 1 • Introduction to Skilled software testing
• Refresher Exercise
• What are test design skills?•
• 5 Exercises for learning skills of test designing
• Questioning techniques like ECP, BVA etc…
• De-brief sessions
• Different approaches to test ( Knowledge components )
• Learning Test Designing by playing Computer Games
• De-brief sessions
• More skills that matter
Day 2 • Refresher Exercise
• Demonstration of skills practiced
• Introduction to techniques ( no, not the ones you might have
heard )
• Mnemonics that helps in testing
• Practice sessions of techniques, skills and approaches learnt
• Introduction to Exploratory and Rapid Software Testing
About the Faculty
Similar to the Chinese Proverb, Pradeep Soundararajan doesn’t
give fish, he teaches how to fish. Pradeep is a humble award
recipient as one of the thought leaders in software testing in
India at an international conference. Pradeep breathes testing
and Michael Bolton ( the expert tester and not the singer ) had
to say the following "Pradeep's first language is not
English--his first language appears to be testing." His testing
has been influenced by people like Jerry Weinberg, Ben Simo, Cem
Kaner, James Bach and other expert testers.
Expert tester and author of Lessons Learned in Software Testing,
James Bach hired Pradeep to represent Satisfice Inc in India.
Pradeep also functions as a Consultant to Edista Testing’s Test
Education, Research and Tester Transformation activities.
Pradeep coaches, consults, speaks, writes, breathes and thinks
on software testing and problem solving. He is an international
speaker and a published author. You could challenge his thoughts
